Commentary
I’m starting to think that we have a terribly stunted imagination when it comes to man’s relationship to nature in the Restoration (i.e., what Heaven will be like). Perhaps teachers and preachers are justified in their refusal to speculate in this area where the Bible is mostly silent. But we have a solid base for some speculation. We know what Jesus was like before and after his Resurrection. We know what abilities and authority he granted to the Apostles and other disciples (e.g., the 72 of Luke 10). Both Jesus and his disciples interacted powerfully with nature, not just with the spiritual realm.
I’ll develop this idea more as I have time to ponder.
Can you guess what scriptures I have in mind? Here’s one very important passage:
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
