Thankfulness at God’s Table

Commentary

Two things prompted this poem: First, I’ve been contemplating God’s pleasure in us regardless of our current abilities. Second (not well reflected in the poem), I’m sad about someone who has lost much of his curiosity, his hunger for knowledge, his taste for life.

I had to look up some of these words:

“bain-marie”—a hot water bath used to gently cook delicate foods

“Cognoscenti”—people who possess expert knowledge, refined taste, or a deep understanding of a particular subject

I’m reminded of a TERRIFIC movie: “Babette’s Feast.” Do yourself a favor, and watch that movie!
